Academy of Finance Mentor Program:
Our mentorship program provides opportunities for adults to make a visible difference in the lives of students by sharing their interests and hard-won wisdom, and by providing guidance through the students' junior and senior high school years, in preparation for their future after high school#
Mentoring Format:
Mentors are paired with one or two other adults, and the team mentors five to six students# Meetings occur the first Thursday of every month, from 2:40 to 4:00 PM# The typical Timeline of monthly meetings:
- March: Meet your Mentor Team #second semester of their Junior year#
- April: Meet with their families to create a plan
- May: Resume Development
- June: Summer Internship Preparation
- July: Summer internship support and debrief
- August: Create Senior year plan
- September: Develop a plan for after high school
- October: Help students choose appropriate college, university, or career path
- November: Finalize plans for beyond high school
- January: Scholarship and Financial Aid Advice
- February - June: Support students to finish their senior year strong
Mentor Expectations:
- Commit to 18 months as a mentor
- Maintain regular contact with student via phone and/or email
- Create opportunities outside of school meetings to enrich your students' education
- Attend various Academy events whenever possible
- Be a positive role-model
- Share with student about your career - successes, failures, lessons learned, etc###
- Have an open mind listening to your students
- Be a resource for the student regarding career or business contacts
